I’m really not good at these things…

First off…. tor_1200x630

The Toronto Blue Jays have clinched the AL East. That’s insane. I never would have thought I’d ever proclaim that. It’s a little surreal. Now, if only could claim the same for their city counterparts; Maple Leafs.

*sigh*

It seems like the world of sports is in full swing yet again, as well that means I become full swing yet again. Just seems to be that the year has flown by. Started a new job that seems like a distant memory, currently back in school (and nearly done that again,) Golf is winding down rapidly. Time will not slow down, its a bit disheartening. It felt like a couple years ago I was basking in my mid twenties without any thoughts of ‘getting old’. Now, it feels like I’m ninety. I suppose it doesn’t help coming off a bit of a back injury that seemed to shorten a lot of good fun in the summer. I realize now that I’m not spring chicken by any means, I should start to savour some of my youth… yikes.

So what happened….

It’s been two months. I’ve told myself endless amounts of times that I need to be more diligent when it comes to this blog*. I’ve told myself to work on ‘mouse’ at least for a measly hour a day. I couldn’t do that. I told myself to do one thing a day, no time restraints, make mini-goals, I couldn’t do that. Eventually, I piled a bunch of work done in one day, in about 20-30 minutes  instead. Which at first was satisfying. Then it became demanding. I faded, and then faded some more, until I stopped altogether.

Other things took up my time and simply pushed ‘mouse’ out the door. When I finally came back to it (as usual), it wasn’t what I had imagined. So I started a filler. A game that would please me and in which I could see a clear direction. The result is what I posted two months ago. A starry sky. I’m not going to lie, there isn’t much progress on it at all and it’s so incredibly primitive at the moment. But…. I made a bit of breakthrough with it… so, I’ll leave it at that.

Trust me… It will get done… sometime…………………………

Before April runs away…

It’s been a quick week, let alone month. A crazy month to boot. From snow for most of it to beautiful weather and golf courses opening up. I’m actually a bit excited for it. I’m still debating on whether or not I’ll be purchasing a membership this year, but like usual, I’m thinking I need to get out and enjoy the outdoors a bit more than I have been. Feels like I’ve been cooped up all winter long. Plus, I really need to lower my handicap!

I’ve left Traders alone for a while. I haven’t had much “drive” to work on it as I’m in a bit of a stalemate with it. Once I complete a plan on doing the login/stat keeping side of it, along with pre-fab maps, I’ll most likely dive back into it. But for now, I want to take more of a creative turn to game making, thus Mouse.

More on that…

I’m terrible at art. I have a great vision in my head, but what I produce is simply not that. Making I should just download my brain? Anyone have that cord handy? I spent the good majority of the week googling templates and sprites and such, even came across and read through a bunch of tutorials. So instead I’ve turned off the finicky main character sprite and moved on to something I do know how to make, code.

I started by brushing up on a lot of Sphere API with regards to entities. After much messing around, I managed to do some controlled movement to mimic the opening sequence in my head.  It doesn’t look terrible… but the temporary sprite I’m using makes it look a bad cartoon when its a serious scene.

*sigh*

Ignoring that fact, I’ve got a lot of art to do. The scene consists of a character running down a hallway dropping papers every so often. I’ve made it so when the ‘player’ move past the point the tile is changed to a fallen piece of paper. So obviously, the paper falling is yet to be done. I also want to adjust his speed in various points of the run, and possibly bend over to attempt to recover a piece. Also needed is the sprite with the paper in hand, naturally.

*sigh*

The other thing, the walls… are soooo bland.. haha. Aww fuck. Anyway, I’m going to start rough mapping the rest of the opening and start setting up the opening game play. I’m most likely going to start delving into the game menu some more and work on a rudimentary save/load system. I think it’d be smart to get the basics of it done before the game gets bigger and I end up missing something that may be hard to keep track of. Planning saves headaches!

I also started a bit of debug mode on the game to test certain systems. Once I get more visual production I’ll snap some screens.

New Tides…

I spent a bit of time today plugging away on Mousetrap and getting the bat to work properly. So now I’ll have to add in some collision detection, some enemies and the ability to deal damage and take damage. I’m still debating on whether or not to add in an RPG like element in regards to experience and leveling up. I am thinking that I’ll stick more to the original Zelda roots and omit that particular feature. I still have no thoughts of the health meter. I guess I’ll just tinker around some more. Maybe a new shot in the coming days.

After a couple of poor and dismal dates, I guess third time is the charm. Funny, I was just in bed with this beautiful girl and the other one, the bad date number one, texts me drunk at like 2 in the morning. I enjoyed a good laugh. Anyways, future is looking bright, and speaking of bright, going golfing at 10am tomorrow, unfortunately, I have to get up at 8, since it’s an hours drive. BOO! Hopefully I’ll Tiger Woods it up.
